The other day someone asked me, “Are you out of your mind?” I looked back and replied, “Yep, that’s exactly what I am trying to do!” Now, if we could just get out of our minds when needed. Sounds easy, right? 

When I started meditating, that was what I was looking for – a way to get out of my mind.  And I have realized over the years that I am not perfect at getting out of it, but I am getting pretty good at training it. 

When the mind starts going in unhealthy directions, I interrupt it. I start with positive thoughts. If that doesn’t work, these two songs always do the trick for me: “I Feel Good” by James Brown or “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” by Bob Marley. 

So now that you’re humming those songs, what happened to those pesky voices or negative thoughts in your head? I’m hoping it shut them off or at least turned their volume down. 

Over the next week, give this a try. Find your own song if my two songs don’t do it for you. And the next time someone asks if you’re out of your mind, take it as a compliment!
